U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Reopens Comment Period for Proposed Rule on Conservation Prebles Meadow Jumping Mouse
The U. S. Fish and Wildlife will reopen the comment period for an additional 45 days on its proposal to establish special regulations for the conservation of the Prebles meadow jumping mouse, a rare mammal known to occur only in eastern Colorado and southeastern Wyoming.
The official dates of the extended comment period will be determined when the notification is published in the Federal Register next week. A news release will be issued announcing the dates of the extension.
On May 13, 1998, the Service published a final rule to list the Prebles meadow jumping mouse as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act. On December 3, 1998, the Service proposed a special rule under 4(d) of the Act to establish standards for the conservation of the Prebles for 18 months.
Some revisions have been made to the geographic locations of Mouse Protection Areas and Potential Mouse Protection Areas described in the December 3, 1998 proposed rule. These revisions are based on the best scientific information that is currently available are maintained by the Service at addresses provided below.
