QUIVIRA NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE WILL NOT CHARGE FEES;
SPECIAL EVENT FEE PROGRAM TO START AT GREAT PLAINS NATURE
CENTER IN WICHITA, KANSAS
To clarify an earlier report, Quivira National Wildlife
Refuge will not charge an
entrance fee or a fee for special events as indicated earlier.
However, the Great Plains Nature
Center in Wichita, Kansas, which is managed under the Quivira
Refuge, will charge a fee
(ranging from $2 to $10) for special events, beginning in May
1997. Fees charged at the
Nature Center will be used to improve the interpretive exhibits,
provide additional interpretive
staff, and develop environmental education materials.
Currently, the Great Plains Nature Center is only
partially open for environmental
education programs and special events. Once the exhibits are
completed, sometime in late
February or early March, the building will be open to the public.
The Center is operated
through a three-way partnership between the U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service, the Kansas
Department of Wildlife and Parks, and the City of Wichita.
