TWO PONDS NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE PARTNERS WITH ARVADA
AND MAJESTIC VIEW NATURE CENTER TO CELEBRATE LOCAL TRAILS

Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge in Arvada, Colorado will help celebrate this year’s “Arvada Celebrates its Trails,” an annual community-wide event to highlight Arvada’s recreational trail network.  The focus of this year’s celebration is the natural environment, and the many opportunities Arvada’s trails offer to nature and outdoor enthusiasts.

Two Ponds, the City of Arvada, and the Majestic View Nature Center are hosting a free event at two locations on Saturday, June 4, 2005.  Activities begin at 9:00 am with a guided 22-mile bicycle ride, sponsored by the Denver Bicycle Touring Club.  Riders should meet in the Majestic View Nature Center parking lot at 8:45 am.

Later in the morning, at 11:00 am, Two Ponds will host a nature walk that begins at Majestic View Nature Center and ends at Two Ponds.

Free shuttles will run regularly between the refuge and the nature center.  A variety of educational and entertaining programs suitable for the whole family will be ongoing at both the refuge and the nature center.  At Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge, visitors can take a self-guided nature tour, view a contraband wildlife display, check out the “Mad Science” station, see live raptors up close, and enjoy performances by “Mr. Bones” and “Teddy Roosevelt.”  Local nature organizations will also have information booths at the event.

Majestic View Nature Center will feature live presentations by the raptor organization HawkQuest, trail walks, bird walks, environmental activities just for kids, information about the Arvada Trail system, and materials about water conservation and landscaping ideas.

Also featured at this year’s event is the Trails Photo Contest, with cash prizes awarded in two categories: Adults and Children.  The Children’s division will be for ages 11 and under.  The photos can be of any scenes and/or activities at Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge, Majestic View Nature Center, or throughout Arvada.  The photos will be displayed at Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge.  Only one photo per person may be submitted and photos cannot be returned.  Entries may be submitted the day of the event at Two Ponds by 11am.
