Health Benefits Information

The Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) Program can help you meet your health-care needs. Federal employees enjoy the widest selection of health plans in business today. You can choose among managed fee-for-service (FFS) plans, plans offering a point of service (POS) product, and health maintenance organizations (HMO).

In general all permanent employees and employees whose appointments are for more than one year are eligible for health benefits. The program provides group rates and Agency contributions toward the premiums. Leave Without Pay could impact these benefits.

Temporary appointments are made usually for one year or less. Generally, temporary employees are not entitled to benefits. If a temporary employee completes one year of temporary employment, and is then converted to another temporary appointment for one year or less, the employee is eligible to enroll in the Federal Employees' Health Benefits program. However, the employee must pay the full cost of the insurance. If the temporary employee is converted to a permanent appointment, benefits would then become available with Agency contributions toward the premium.
