Bill Sproul and his neighbors taught Lance how to ride and move cattle.
Once the cattle were gathered, Lance learned how to work cattle in the corrals, moving them into the squeeze shoot to receive vaccinations and get ready for trucking to the feedlot.

Lance enjoyed the experience of working with cattle and gained a greater appreciation for what all is involved with a cattle operation. His many years of experience in the Partners Program, working with a wide variety of landowners, enabled him to jump in there and learn quickly.

The Flint Hills is an amazing place as it hosts the last remaining intact tallgrass prairie in North America. Through the Tallgrass Legacy Alliance, in the Flint Hills, the Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program has been working in partnership with the local ranchers to maintain rural lifestyles and viable agriculture, while also enhancing habitat for high priority grassland birds and other wildlife. Lance's experience in the Flint Hills was very educational, as he was able to put together the whole story, first hand.
