The Southeastern Utah Focus Area has farming and rangeland as the main use. The Gunnison sage grouse is located within this area, and the Partners Program has been working with the Utah Division of Wildlife, Natural Resources Conservation Service, and the Extension Service to provide habitat. Numerous landowners have enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Program, and a desirable seeding mixture was designed by the Utah Division of Wildlife.

The Extension Service has been working closely with landowners to complete a conservation plan. They have identified approximately 230,000 acres for the conservation area with a core area of 65,000 acres. Utah Partners for Fish and Wildlife is working with the Utah Division of Wildlife to provide funding for a perpetual easement with one landowner to protect 2,200 acres to preserve native habitat around one of three remaining active strutting grounds. The goal is to continue working with interested landowners to improve habitat for the Gunnison sage grouse while enhancing their operations.
