Asian/Pacific American History Month:  Asian Pacific American Heritage Month (APAHM) is a month-long celebration and recognition of Asian and Pacific Americans held in May. The goal of APAHM is to nurture an appreciation and understanding of Asian/Pacific American culture and to recognize the rich contributions of Asian/Pacific Americans.

Older Americans Month:  This coming May, the nation will have another opportunity to recognize the valuable and often inspirational contributions of our 34 million older Americans, their families, and caregivers.

The National Image, Inc., Training Conference and Exposition will be held June 6-12, 2004, at the Hilton Hotel in Disney World, Lake Buena Vista, FL.  The theme of the conference is “A Tribute to Hard Work, Integrity and Professionalism – Commitment to Community through Leadership and Organization.”  The National Image Conference will host a number of students from various colleges and universities, high schools, and community organizations.  The Conference will feature speakers and workshops addressing leadership, personal development, managerial skills development, managing diversity, equal employment and contracting opportunity, and women’s issues, among many other subjects.  Additional information about the conference can be found at www.nationalimageinc.org.

  • The 75th League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) National Convention & Exposition will be held July 6-11, 2004, at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, San Antonio, TX.  The theme is “Celebrating Our Legacy: Our Future.”  The League of United Latin American Citizens mission is to advance the economic condition, educational attainment, political influence, health and civil rights of the Hispanic population of the United States.  Additional information about the conference can be found at www.lulac.org.

Women's Equality Day:  On August 26, 1920, the 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote was certified as part of the U.S. Constitution. Referred to as the Susan B. Anthony Amendment, it states, "The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex."

15Sep - 15 Oct National Hispanic Heritage Month:  "Hispanic Americans, Making a Difference in Our Communities and Our Nation".  America's Diversity Has Always Been a Great Strength of Our Nation. As we celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month, we recognize and applaud the extraordinary accomplishments of Hispanic Americans. Join with all Americans in recognizing the many contributions of Hispanic Americans to the United States, and in celebrating Hispanic heritage and culture. To honor the achievements of Hispanic Americans, the Congress, by Public Law 100-402 as amended, has authorized and requested the President to issue annually a proclamation designating September 15 through October 15, as "National Hispanic Heritage Month."

1-31 National Disability Employment Awareness Month:  Laws have been passed that are breaking through many of the barriers which have kept people with disabilities out of the mainstream. However, we cannot legislate against attitudinal barriers; that is the one frontier which each of us must confront. We must all work to remove the negative and stereotypical attitudes from our minds, writings and actions.
