Northern Great Plains Piping Plover Critical Habitat DesignationFact Sheet: Exclusions
The U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service has designated certain habitats in Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska and some Tribal lands as critical habitat for the northern Great Plains population of Piping Plover.

Designated habitats include:
Prairie alkali wetlands, inland, and reservoir lakes = 19 units encompassing 183,422 acres
Four rivers (Missouri, Platte, Niobrara, and Loup) encompassing 1,207.5 miles
Exclusions:
Total acreage reduced by 13,154.5 acres
Excluded: Nelson Reservoir and Camp Grafton
Total river miles reduced by 130.5 miles
Excluded: Lake Francis Case on the Missouri River
Platte River reduced by 23 miles
Niobrara River reduced by 9 miles
Exclusions for sites with management plans: Nelson Reservoir, Camp Grafton, Lake McConaughy
