What's Going On...... Friends of the Modoc National Wildlife Refuge is a non-profit organization dedicated to the enhancementof the refuge as a community asset. The Friends meet monthly at the refuge, please call 233- 3572 for scheduled dates. New visitor area at the Refuge, expanded kids area, where they can sit and read a book, explore the touch and feel boxes, put together a floor puzzle, color and view educational displays. New bird viewing window and new displays. SPRING HAS SPRUNG IN THE VISITOR CENTER!! Stop in and view a varitey of nests and eggs from many different brids in the area. Have you ever seen a Willows Phalarope egg or a Long Billed Curlew egg? Identify the bits and pieces that are used to construct the works of art in each nest. February is the month when the Cranes return. Come to the visitor center and see a life sized Crane nest and eggs. Learn interesting facts about cranes from the crane display. NEW: Birding Kits & Binoculars: We have added something new for all that like to view wildlife. BIRDING KITS & BINOCULARS! Day use of the birding kits or binoculars are available at the refuge. Kits include, binoculars, Birds of Northern California identification book, Guide to Creek Birds of California, and additional birding brochures. Bioculars are also available to check-out for day use on the refuge. Have a group who wants to view wildlife, need binoculars? The refuge has additional binoculars for small group use. Take a walk, enjoy the cool crisp air, take a ride, and bring a friend, check-out a pair of binoculars or a birding kit and enjoy the outdoor beauty and view wildlife on the refuge!
Schedule of Events: Wings of the Warners Festival (new name!) - There will be no festival in 2010. However, in 2011 the festival will be in conjunction with the Refuge's 50th anniversary celebration.
