Modoc National Wildlife Refuge Auto Tour Route Closure
The auto tour route on the Modoc NWR will be closed beginning Tuesday October 13. The auto tour route is being closed to allow for the completion of a road improvement project. The excisiting roadway will be rehabilitated to allow for better drainage and improved driving conditions during periods of wet weather. The work also includes enlarging the existing pullouts and the addition of two new pullouts to enhance the wildlife viewing opportunities along the auto tour route.
The project is scheduled to run through mid December. The paved entrance road to the Refuge Headquaters and visitor area will remain open during construction.
Friends
of the Modoc National Wildlife Refuge is a non-profit organization dedicated
to the enhancementof the refuge as a community asset. The Friends meet
monthly at the refuge, please call 233- 3572 for scheduled dates.
New visitor
area at the Refuge, expanded kids area, where they can sit and read a book, explore the touch and feel boxes, put together a floor puzzle, color and touch animal skins.
New bird viewing window, new displays: birds of prey feather collection, skulls, hides, and the new goose and duck mount display. Stop in to see the new birds of prey mounts for 2009!
NEW: Birding Kits & Binoculars: We have added
something new for all that like to view wildlife. BIRDING KITS & BINOCULARS!
Day use of the birding kits or binoculars are available at the refuge.
Kits include, binoculars, Birds of Northern California identification
book, Guide to Creek Birds of California, and additional birding brochures.
Bioculars are also available to check-out for day use on the refuge. Have
a group who wants to view wildlife, need binoculars? The refuge has additional
binoculars for small group use. Take a walk, enjoy the cool crisp air,
take a ride, and bring a friend, check-out a pair of binoculars or a birding
kit and enjoy the outdoor beauty and view wildlife on the refuge!
