Tribal HighlightsCurrent NewsThe Boardman River Watershed is located in the northwestern corner of the lower peninsula of Michigan in both Grand Traverse and Kalkaska Counties. Since the late 1800's there have been five dams located on the Boardman River, currently, 4 are still in place; the Union Street Dam, the Sabin Dam, the Boardman Dam, and the Brown Bridge Dam. In 2005, Traverse City Light and Power, Traverse City, and Grand Traverse County organized the Boardman River Dams Committee and concluded to close three of the dams and modify the Union Street Dam. More than $599,000 in Fish and Wildlife Conservation Grants Awarded to Tribes in the Midwest Region The Fish and Wildlife Service, Midwest Region is pleased to announce funding for three Tribal fish and wildlife conservation projects totaling $599,978 through the Service’s Fiscal Year 2012 Tribal Wildlife Grant Program. The following Tribes received funding this year: the Ho Chunk Nation in Wisconsin; the St. Croix Chippewa Indians of Wisconsin; and the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians in Michigan.
