Environmental Education

Come discover the refuge!

Educators are encouraged to bring their students to Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge. Expand the boundaries of your classroom. Give your students a chance to let their sense of wonder come alive and help them make important connections to their natural world! Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge offers free educational programs for all age groups ranging from half hour to full day field trips. Choose from a variety of programs that provide students with the opportunities to discover and explore refuge habitats from wetlands to woodlands to prairie. If you can't make it to the refuge, let refuge staff bring nature to your classroom and give your unit of study a boost.

Steps to schedule a program...

  1. Download the refuge Environmental Education one-page handout and choose the program to meet your curriculum needs.
  2. Allow for at least 2 weeks for scheduling. April, May, September and October are very busy for field trips and other refuge activities. Consider scheduling during late fall, winter and early spring to be guaranteed a program to meet your needs.
  3. Remember refuge staff can come to your school, your scout program, or civic organization.
  4. Contact refuge ranger to schedule your program at 6088/539-2311, ext. 6.
  5. All programs are meant to align themselves with your curriculum needs as well as creating a connection to the national wildlife refuge system and the natural world. We strive to foster understanding and instill appreciation of fish, wildlife, and plants, and their conservation, by providing quality environmental education programming.
  6. Once your program is scheduled, be sure to review the guidelines for school programs, and use the teacher checklist to prepare for your visit.
