• Rafting over the chute. A water rescuer friend and myself on a day canoe trip near Timmins Ontario. We accompanied a group of 6 paddlers 2 on a canoe and 4 kayaks. I solicited their help as we were paddling down the Tatachikapika River where our club has initiated a study on the presence of Lake Sturgeon in the Upper reaches of the Mattagami River. The Tat. is the highest volume tributary which feeds the Mattag.. The fish, in their pre-spawn mode, are known to surface at times. We had no success that day to see fish, but had a great time paddling and showing off a bit to our six spectators friends. (pdf-467 Kb)

• A hand drawn map of Camus rapid, site of the annual student visit. This site is about 8 km North of highway 101 on the Groundhog River, a major tributary of the Moose river which flows into James Bay in Northern Ontario. (pdf-306 Kb)

• 2011 Update - Club Navigateur La Ronde will be starting a 3 year lake sturgeon habitat study. Six juveniles were captured by OMNR in 2007 in this area, and in the last two years anglers have been catching four to five year old juveniles.

• In this picture you see an example of the student outreach we have been doing for 12 years. Two of our faithful members are also pictured who help get our youth in close contact with this prehistoric natured aquatic beauty. These male Sturgeon are usually captured as they are first to move in to the historical spawning bed on the Groundhog River at Camus Rapids. (pdf-533 Kb)

• Female students are amazed at these fish and actively participate in the day outings, first crashing through the bush for 2 hours and then getting close to these friendly giants of our rivers. They all wanted to hold a Sturgeon. The smile and grin ear to ear tells the whole story. (pdf-372 Kb)
