Who We Are

The District is managed by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, an agency of the Department of the Interior. Our mission is to conserve, protect and enhance fish and wildlife and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.

The National Wildlife Refuge System consists of more than 550 refuges. The system encompasses 93 million acres nationwide and is considered the world's most important network of lands dedicated to wildlife.

The District is a part of the Midwest Region of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
