Hunting

Beginning in June - Apply On-line for a 2008 Deer Hunt

The deadline for applying for the 2008 deer hunt will be August 1, 2008. You CANNOT apply at this time. Visit huntshiawassee.org for more information.

2008 Deer Hunting Information

Information for refuge hunting in 2008 is not available at this time.

You can review last year's information by downloading the 2007 Information Sheet (PDF file - 71 KB) for instructions on how to apply, hunt choices and other information. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the PDF file.

Priority Point System:

The refuge began a priority point system in 2001. Review the Priority Point System Standards (PDF file - 66 KB) for more information.

2007 Drawing Results and Point Totals:

The point totals show what you have after the drawing for this year's hunts on August 9, 2007. Please note that if you were selected for a hunt, that total goes to zero while your other total remains.  For example if you were selected for an either sex hunt, you will now have zero either sex points while your anterless points will be the same.  All listings are either by sport card number or driver's license number.  The following key will help you interpret the information:

  • "A" column = anterless points
  • "B" column = either sex points
  • "Permit Won" = selected for the hunt
  • "No permit" = not selected for the hunt
  • "No application" = no application entered into drawing

A lottery drawing was held each morning of the hunt at 5:30 a.m. at the refuge headquarters.  Doors opened at 5:00 a.m. for registration. Up to three (3) people per blind. Each person in the blind paid a $4.00 fee; a discount was given to those individuals who met the age requirements (age 62 or older) and possess a "Golden Age Card " or "Interagency Senior Pass" (cost is $10). All State waterfowl regulations and refuge regulations applied. Hunters were required to stop shooting at 12:00 noon and check in by 1:00 p.m. whether successful or not.
