Estimated Dissemination Date of PDM Plan to the Public: January-February 2007
About the Peer Review Process
Type of Peer Review: Members of the Eastern Gray Wolf Recovery Team will be asked to submit individual comments on the draft PDM Plan. All Recovery Team members will be provided with the current draft of the PDM Plan and asked to provide comments by a set deadline, probably in 30 to 60 days. Team members will be asked to review PDM quality, extent, duration, consistency with previous monitoring, data evaluation methods, and triggers and concerns that might lead to follow-up responses by the Service, including consideration of relisting the species.
Anticipated Number of Reviewers: We anticipate receipt of reviews from a minimum of six and a maximum of twelve reviewers.
Reviewer Selection Method/Expertise of Reviewers: The Service will solicit comments from members of the Eastern Gray Wolf Recovery Team, who will submit individual comments in written form. Recovery Team members are appointed by the Regional Director, and currently consist of federal, state, tribal, and independent biologists with expertise in wolf biology and wolf management. No Recovery Team members are employees of the Fish and Wildlife Service. This Recovery Team has been in existence for three decades, and it has developed two wolf recovery plans and provided the Service with advice on wolf recovery on many occasions.
Handling of Peer Review Comments: All peer reviews and comments will be public documents. Peer review comments will not be identified or specifically addressed in the final PDM Plan, but will be used to improve the final document and the scientific quality of PDM.
Estimated Start Date of Peer Review: August or September 2006
