Ohio's Endangered Species Consultation Conference was held on Friday,
November 4, 2005, 8am-3pm. This conference was sponsored by the U.S. Fish
and Wildlife Service, in partnership with the Ohio Department of
Transportation, and focused on conducting consultation on Federally listed
species, as required under Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act of 1973,
as amended (Act). The staff at the Reynoldsburg, Ohio Field Office was very
pleased with the participation of agencies, consultants, and developers who
work on endangered species issues in Ohio. Over 200 registered to attend the
Conference.
The Endangered Species Act requires Federal agencies to ensure that their
actions do not jeopardize the continued existence of federally listed
species. If a project may affect a federally listed species, consultation
under Section 7 of the Act is required. This conference focused on
understanding the basics of Section 7 consultation, examining consultation
requirements for species in Ohio, such as the Indiana bat, and providing a
forum for questions about the consultation process.
We are including most of the presentations and pertinent resouce material
