Wildlands: When visiting Ottawa NWR you will be able to see habitat reflective of the historic Great Black Swamp. Wildlife: Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) is a resting area for migratory birds and is home to our treasured national symbol, the bald eagle. The Refuge is also home to many mammals such as white-tailed deer, muskrats, and mink. Not to mention, our wetlands are complete with a fair share of insects, fish, amphibians, and reptiles that add to the richness of marsh life.
