Refuge Weed Warriors Needed!

Volunteer to assist in pulling garlic mustard from critical areas on Ottawa NWR.

Garlic mustard is an invasive plant that quickly spreads in wooded areas covering the forest floor. This aggresive plant eliminates native flowers and plants that are important components in forest ecosystems. Garlic mustard can easily be killed by pulling the roots of the plant out of the soil. Pulling garlic mustard is a wonderful control technique because it can be done by anyone with little training and it reduces the amount of herbicide the refuge uses.

Volunteers will need to be prepared to possibly get muddy, so bring work boots and gloves. The refuge does have a limited number of gloves available.

For further information, please contact Kathy Huffman at 419-898-0014 or at kathy_huffman@fws.gov
