Final Natural Resource Restoration Plan and Environmental Assessment for Fields Brook Superfund Site, Ashtabula, Ohio

The final Restoration Plan/Environmental Assessment (RP/EA) to address natural resources injured due to the releases of hazardous substances from the Fields Brook Superfund Site was approved on September 8, 2004 when the Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) was signed.  The final RP/EA addresses injuries to natural resources due to the release of hazardous substances from the Fields Brook Superfund Site, and includes public comments received on the initial RP/EA last spring.

The preferred action (Alternative B) was selected which will restore natural resources within the assessment area.  The assessment area includes Fields Brook and its tributaries; the Ashtabula River and watershed including tributaries and adjacent coastal wetlands/dune swale habitat; and near-shore parts of Lake Erie.

The other action alternative considered (Alternative C) would have included restoration projects within and beyond the assessment area.  A "no action" alternative was also considered, as required under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
