Friends

The Friends of the Morris Wetland Management District is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the work of the Morris district. The Friends have fun together, organize special events, raise awareness and support the district within surrounding communities, often serving as volunteers to accomplish projects. Some specific recent Friends projects include:

  • Organize a birding festival the first weekend in May. This brings bird lovers together for an enjoyable weekend of birding and promotes conservation-based tourism in the community.

  • Construct wood duck boxes and mallard nesting cylinders for use on WPAs and to give to the public.

  • Assist staff with prairie wagon rides, prairie conservation talks, and a parade float as part of a local community festival called Prairie Pioneer Days.

  • Organize winter events such as cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

  • Express support for the Fish and Wildlife Service at meetings of local government officials.

  • Obtain grants to improve hiking trail and publish leaflets to improve public understanding of natural resources in the area.

This group is a terrific asset to the Morris Wetland Management District. For information about joining our Friends group, contact the Morris Wetland Management District or email the Friends at FOMorrisWMD@refugenet.org.
