Mingo National Wildlife Refuge provides a variety of wildlife-dependent recreational and educational opportunities for the public to enjoy the resources of the Refuge and to support the National Wildlife Refuge System.

In 1997, Congress passed the National Wildlife Refuge System Improvement Act. The Act established hunting, fishing, wildlife observation, wildlife, photography, environmental education, and interpretation as "priority public uses" when compatible with the mission and purpose of an individual refuge. The Refuge provides opportunity for each of these priority public uses. In addition, the Refuge provides opportunity for canoeing, kayaking, horseback riding, biking, hiking, jogging, berry and mushroom gathering, and picnicking. A variety of facilities are available to enhance visitor experiences.

Over 100,000 visits annually occur at the Refuge. We encourage everyone to come out and enjoy Mingo National Wildlife Refuge. Certain regulations are necessary to protect the area. For more information on special regulations, please contact the Visitor Center at (573) 222-3589.
