Minnesota to invite the participation of other agencies, non-profits,
and tribes in our efforts to tackle challenges to island conservation
- Participate in implementation of the objectives outlined in the "Framework
for the Binational Conservation of Great Lakes Islands" grant recently
funded by the EPA Great Lakes National Program Office

- Finalize the GIS/DSS Core Group's "Strategic
Plan for Developing Implementation Recommendations"(pdf-608

and present this information to the Team, Region 3, and Region 5
- Continue to improve the Lake Michigan Islands Pilot DSS developed
by the USGS and meet with the Islands Committee to determine the ease-of-use,
identify further needs, and update the functionality of the system
- Begin developing islands decision support systems for each individual
lake including Lake Ontario, Lake Erie, Lake Huron, and Lake Superior
- Continue the development of the Lake Sturgeon tributary database in
conjunction with the Lake Sturgeon Committee and collaborate with the
USGS Upper Midwest Environmental Science Center on the development of
the application
- Continue to compile and and create base layer data for the Great Lakes
basin
- Participate in a volunteer coordination group to assist with the development
of a Great Lakes GIS listserve for sharing information and techniques
within the geospatial technology community
- Address the following issues for the GLBET Islands Conservation
Outreach/Communications Plan: prioritization of island conservation
issues/threats and stakeholders, research and evaluation of our communications
efforts to date, research and focus future efforts on the appropriate
audiences using the proper tools and messages
- Produce a Great Lakes Islands Conservation brochure
- Complete a Great Lakes Basin Ecosystem Team display for use at conferences
and other exhibit opportunities
- Establish a Regional Office point of contact for the GLBET Web Site
to identify existing items that need to be updated or posted and provide
posting in a timely manner
- Review script and edit the USFWS Great Lakes video on the Service's
role in the Great Lakes Basin ecosystem
- Work with External Affairs to provide distribution of GLBET printed,
audio-visual and other products to field offices and the public
- Confirm the chair and committee members of the GLBET Outreach/Communication
Committee and determine need for additional membership and support
- Update and post the GLBET fact sheet on the GLBET Web Site
- Determine need for, funding opportunities, and writing of fact sheets
for Asian Carp, Great Lakes National Wildlife Refuges, and the "Great
Lakes Coastal Birding Trail"
