Volunteering at DeSoto What Do Volunteers Do? Volunteers do many different things around the refuge...
From helping preserve artifacts from the Bertrand, taking care of bird specimens, helping maintain trails, checking nest boxes, assisting with bird counts, working with school groups, and many, many other activities. How Much Time Do I Need to Spend? During 2002 volunteers logged 5,965 hrs. In 2003 they logged 5,810 hrs and 5,955 hrs in 2004! You can spend as much time as you wish - help on a single project or on many different projects, it's up to you. This year, Gary Caldwell (far right in picture below) was awarded a pin for 10,000 hours of volunteer work for his efforts at helping maintain the five nature trails! Volunteer of the Year - Some volunteers who have shown particular dedication to helping with various projects around the refuge are recognized for their contribution to the refuge. Here is a list of volunteers who have been recognized the past 6 years. 2005 - Mary Klimek
