Refuge Updates
![]() |
Please welcome our newest member to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Law Enforcement Team at Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge. "Nate" is a 17 month old Belgian Malinois from the border of the Czech/Slovak Republic. Nate is trained and qualified for dual purpose functions which entails patrol work, officer protection, suspect apprehension, tracking (including search and rescue), article/evidence searching, narcotic detection, and he works great in the boat! Nate is teamed up with K9 Law Enforcement Officer Adam Rawlinson. Nate lives with K9 Officer Rawlinson at his home, and is always patrolling and investigating with him. The majority of Nate's talents will be used to enforce Conservation laws and educating the public on Conservation issues. Nate is already proving himself to be an essential and effective asset to our Law Enforcement Team. The truth is, he's already proving himself to be a great Officer on our team. Nate has already made several cases, a couple deployment tracks, and one arrest. This is our second K9 inside of Region 3. Our other team member is "Rudi", also a Belgian Malinois, who is stationed with K9 Officer Darryn Witt at the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge (Savanna District). Nate and K9 Officer Rawlinson are only one of seven K9 teams in the United States for the Fish and Wildlife Service. When you see Nate and K9 Officer Rawlinson, be sure to say hello! Nate is very social and loves his job! |
