DEER HUNTING

A special muzzleloader antlerless deer hunt will be held at Boyer Chute National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) on January 9-10, 2010. This will be available only to holders of Nebraska Season Choice Area 21 permits who obtain a free-access permit from the refuge.   

There will be 75 free-access permits available on a first-come, first-served basis. To obtain one of these, applicants must send a self-addressed, stamped business-sized envelope to: Boyer Chute NWR, 3720 Rivers Way, Fort Calhoun, NE 68023. Identify the January 9-10 muzzleloader deer hunt on the envelope. Applications will be accepted through Dec. 15, 2009.

Free-access permits and maps will be mailed to applicants. There will be a scouting day during the daylight hours of Jan. 3. Hunting will be allowed in designated areas in accordance with refuge and Nebraska Game and Parks Commission regulations.

Note: All permits have been sold for the Boyer Chute Early (Oct.) and Boyer Chute Late (Dec.) deer hunts.

WATERFOWL HUNTING is allowed per state regulations. Special refuge regulations apply.

The hunting area lies along the Missouri River perimeter of the island from the east bank of the chute at the headwaters to the east bank of the chute at the confluence, and landward to the island perimeter trail. Walking access, with weapons cased and unloaded, is allowed from the Headwaters, Main, and Confluence trails for those who don't have boat access.
