VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge has opportunities for interested individuals to become a volunteer or intern and work on a variety of projects. Past volunteer/interns have participated in studies of forest bird nest productivity, grassland bird nest productivity, cerulean warbler and small mammals and other tasks such as visitor assistance, sign placement and trash pick-up. INTERNS
Interns are normally college students or recent college graduates that are provided housing and a small subsistence payment to cover living expenses. Most interns have, or are pursuing, degrees in biology or public recreation. |

VOLUNTEERS Volunteers are individuals that normally reside in the local community and offer their experience and enthusiasm for work (generally outside) on an unpaid basis.

FRIENDS GROUP
The Big Oaks Conservation Society is the non-profit (501c3) support group of Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge. The membership consists of people who care about wildlife and who want to make Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge a place where wildlife and visitors mutually benefit. The Big Oaks Conservation Society works closely with the Refuge staff in their efforts to educate visitors about the wildlife and natural habitats. Members have the opportunity to get involved with the management of Indiana's largest national wildlife refuge.
