Since 2001, Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge has had a permanent fire staff and beginning in 2002, 4 intermittent fire positions were staffed at the refuge.  Fire positions are filled as "Range Technicians" and advertised on the WWW.FIREJOBS.DOI.GOV website.  Range technicians at Big Oaks NWR help in conducting prescribed burns at Big Oaks NWR and other refuges within the region.  Range Technicians may also be used for wildfire suppression efforts nationwide as needed.  For more information you may contact the refuge.
