DeerWho are we?

The Big Oaks Conservation Society is the non-profit support group of the Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge.  The membership consists of people who care about wildlife and who want to make Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge a place in which wildlife and visitors mutually benefit.  The Big Oaks Conservation Society works closely with the Refuge staff and with the National Wildlife Refuge Association in their efforts to educate visitors about the wildlife and natural habitats.  Members have the opportunity to get involved with the management of Indiana’s largest national wildlife refuge.  Meetings are held the first Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge office (building 125) on the southern end of the former Jefferson Proving Ground (JPG).

What is our purpose?

The Big Oaks Conservation Society supports the goals of wildlife conservation and habitat restoration at Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge, to enhance public awareness, use, and appreciation for the natural and cultural assets unique to Big Oaks.

Where are we?

The Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge is located on the former Jefferson Proving Ground.  The refuge entrance is located on Highway 421 approximately 4 miles north of Madison, Indiana.
