The Ashland National Fish & WIldlife Conservation Office (NFWCO) is a field office in Region 3, the Great Lakes and Big Rivers Region, established in 1972. Located on U.S. Highway 2 in Ashland, Wisconsin, on the shore of Lake Superior's Chequamegon Bay, the Ashland NFWCO shares space with the Lake Superior Biological Station (affiliated with the U.S. Geological Survey) and the U.S. National Park Service's Great Lakes Network Office. Other Service offices in Wisconsin include Fishery Offices at Green Bay and La Crosse, National Fish Hatcheries at Iron River and Genoa, the La Crosse Fish Health Center, the Ecological Services Field Office in Green Bay, three Law Enforcement offices, eight National Wildlife Refuges, two wetland management districts, and the Madison Private Lands Office. MISSION AND GOALS The Mission of the Ashland NFWCO is Working with Tribal, Federal, State and local governments, non-government organizations and private landowners, to conserve, manage and rehabilitate native species and their habitats for citizens of the Lake Superior basin. This station mission steps down the national mission of the Service, which is Working with others, to conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.
