Gibbs Lake Waterfowl Hunting Management Plan

Black River Bottoms Map

This map of the proposed Black River Bottoms Slow, No Wake Area will be part of a separate rule making package being submitted for publication in the Federal Register later this year, and available for public review and comment when published. This is a change from the area depicted in the approved Comprehensive Conservation Plan (CCP) for the refuge. This change was made after further discussions with area citizens as outlined in the CCP (page 134). The area has been reduced in size from 1,165 acres to 815 acres by deleting the area above and including Hammond Chute to accommodate power watercraft travel needs from the Black River to points west. This slow, no wake area will take effect in 2008. In slow, no wake areas, watercraft will be required to travel at slow, no wake speed from March 16 through October 31, and airboat and hovercraft operation in these areas is not allowed during the same dates.
