Ho-Chunk Nation receives Wetlands Conservation Award

The Ho-Chunk Nation was recognized this month as the Region 3 Runner up for the National Wetlands Conservation Award. The Nation was nominated by the Wisconsin Private Lands Office for the restoration of 75 acres of wetland and 185 acres of prairie on tribal lands in Juneau County, Wis. The restored wetlands and prairie will provide increased habitat for waterfowl, wading and grassland birds. It is estimated that as many as 75 species of birds could use the site including sandhill cranes and Henslow's sparrow. The project will provide improved water quality to the Lemonweir River. The Project is on lands purchased by the Nation for housing development, but later changed to natural resource restoration area. Offices Involved: R3-Wisconsin Private Lands Office Partners: Wisconsin Waterfowl Association LMS Construction
