Land Acquisition Branch
The Land Acquisition staff works with landowners who have indicated an interest in selling their property, or property interests, to the United States Fish and Wildlife Service.
Staff is responsible for working with Appraisers from the Appraisal Services Directorate branch of the National Business Center who determine the fair market value for the property.
Staff realty specialists make the fee-title or easement purchases from the willing landowners.
Lands are acquired using funds from:
The Migratory Bird Conservation Fund (from the sale of Federal Duck Stamps) The Congressionally appropriated Land and Water Conservation Fund
Natural Resource Damage AssessmentsSurveys and Maps Branch
When surveys are required, the survey staff is responsible for surveying, writing legal descriptions, recording and mapping properties for purchased.
Provide surveys and capabilities for land acquisition and boundary retracement.
Produces cartographic products for use by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Realty Management
Once properties are acquired, the staff is responsible for managing real estate records for over one million acres of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service owned lands throughout the Midwest Region.
Works to assure that counties receive revenue sharing payments.
Processes non-funded land acquisitions such as exchanges, donations, transfers and withdrawals.
Process right-of-way permits across U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service owned land
