Our volunteers are individuals who want to give back to their communities: parents who want to be good stewards of the land and set examples for their children, retired people willing to share their wealth of knowledge, concerned citizens of all ages who want to learn more about conservation, and passionate people who enjoy the outdoors and want to spread the word about America's greatest natural treasures. Please call or email this field station to learn about future volunteer opportunities.

Friends Group Information
Volunteers have been an important part of many of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Fisheries facilities throughout the country for some time. In the past several years, volunteers began forming "friends" organizations throughout the country in support of National Fish Hatcheries, Fish Health and Technology Centers, and Fish and Wildlife Conservation Offices. In 2006, Congress formalized these Fisheries Friends and other volunteer efforts in support of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Fisheries Program by passing the National Fish Hatchery Volunteer Act.
Our friend’s group, the Friends of Pendills Creek Hatchery (FPCH), was founded in 2005. This group supports our lake trout production and also sponsors our Lake Superior beach frontage with a pavilion, picnic site and boardwalk to the beach. To find out more information on the FPCH, please call the hatchery at (906) 437-5231.
The mission of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is working with others to conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife, plants, and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people. In turn, the Fisheries Program routinely collaborates with tribal, federal, state, local and non-profit groups forming partnerships to implement on-the-ground conservation projects that protect and enhance fish and other aquatic resources and provide angling opportunities to the public.
