Join us in celebrating International Migratory Bird Day!

May 9-10, 2009

Each year, Ottawa NWR joins with Magee Marsh Wildlife Area and Black Swamp Bird Observatory in celebrating and supporting migratory bird conservation. This year's theme is "Celebrating Birds in Culture"

Saturday Activities:

  • Family friendly nature activities including crafts, games, and bird walks 10 am - 4 pm
  • Wagon Rides: 10 am - 2 pm
  • Local Exhibitors including live raptors and an opportunity to learn about solar-powered houses. 10 am - 4 pm
  • Auto Tour: 9 am - 4 pm
  • Ribbon cutting ceremony for the new boardwalk trail behind the visitor center: 1 pm

Sunday Activities:

  • Auto Tour: 9 am - 4 pm
  • "The Miracle of Flight" presented by Dr. Susan Orosz. Dr. Orosz is the owner of Bird & Exotic Pet Wellness Center in Toledo, Ohio, and past president of the Association of Avian Veterinarians. Her presentation will focus on fascinating aspects of bird flight, behavior, and anatomy, and is part of the monthly "Naturally Speaking" seminar series presented by Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge
  • Visitor Center open: 9 am - 4 pm
