Morris Wetland Management District Going Green
“This is an exciting time for Morris as we lower our carbon footprint. When the renovations are completed we will be able to provide our annual average energy needs for the headquarters heating and cooling system through the solar panels,” stated Frank Durbian, Wildlife Refuge Specialist. The Morris Wetland Management District manages 244 Waterfowl Production Areas (WPAs) within an eight county district. The District also manages privately owned wetlands and adjacent grasslands that are forever protected by conservation easements. Together, there is over 70,000 acres of land dedicated to wildlife and wildlife dependent public recreation. Innovative Builders, Inc. out of Alexandria, Minnesota was awarded the project. During construction refuge headquarters will be relocated to the maintenance shop, just east of the headquarters. Temporary parking with directional signs will be posted for the public. Re-opening of the office is expected early spring of 2010.
