Rosebud NEPA
Final Environmental Assessment for Rosebud Island Protection Project
The final Environmental Assessment (EA) to reduce erosion on the downstream shoreline of Rosebud Island was signed on April 30, 2003. This three island complex is located in Lake Onalaska in Navigation Pool 7 on the Upper Mississippi River. The Proposed Alternative (A) was selected which protects the island by constructing a combination of four offshore structures and a nearshore rock wedge on the outer island in the complex.
Two other Alternatives were also considered in the EA. Alternative C would have provided erosion protection by constructing nearshore structures on all three islands. The third Alternative (B) considered was the "No Action" Alternative which would have allowed the erosion to continue without intervention.
Provided below is a copy of the EA, the Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI), figures, and appendices. Printed copies of the document may be obtained at the Upper Mississippi National Wildlife and Fishery Refuge, LaCrosse District Headquarters located at 555 Lester Avenue, Onalaska, Wisconsin; by writing to this address; or by telephoning (608)783-8405.
