Wildlife observation and photography are high priority public uses within the National Wildlife Refuge System. The Refuge has two portable nature photography blinds that may be reserved for use on refuge lands by the general public. The portable blinds weigh 9 lbs. and are 68" square by 78" tall with four window openings. They operate on a quick-set spring for easy operation and fit in a backpack carrying case. Users may wish to bring portable seating.
Blinds may be reserved for up to three days and can be checked out at the Bloomington or Rapids Lake Education & Visitor Centers during regular public hours. A $25 deposit is required, payable by cash or check, refunded when the blind is returned in good condition. Reservations may be made through Judy Geck, 952-858-0731 or email judy_geck@fws.gov. Please include request date(s) for reservation, preferred check out location, and your contact information.
Blinds at Wilkie, Chaska, and Upgrala units of the Refuge will no longer be available.
