Outreach
It is important for the La Crosse Fishery Resources Office (FRO) to inform and educate the public about the species of fish and mussels they work with, the problems the environment is facing, and services the FRO provides for the public.
 Some of the most popular outreach activities are presentations for students in school whether it's day care or college students, presentations at clubs or organizations such as Rod & Gun Clubs, displays for the La Crosse Center's Sports Show, and the Ducks Unlimited Festival in Oshkosh. Every year La Crosse FRO participates in the Upper Mississippi River Festival in which they give presentations and demonstrations on electroshocking, netting and other fish sampling methods.
 La Crosse FRO has also worked with a camera crew from "Into the Outdoors," a children's nature show sponsored by "Discover WI" and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Children were able to learn all about the paddlefish and see a live one netted, tagged and then released. A copy of the program can be viewed at the USFWS Resource Center in the lobby. Also on display is information on exotic species such as the round goby, zebra mussels and Asian carp, paddlefish, lake sturgeon, and endangered mussel species such as the Higgins' eye and winged mapleleaf.
