The USFWS - La Crosse Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office needs volunteers like you to help us manage our valuable fishery resource! Volunteers should be at least 15 years of age or be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers are needed to work with lake sturgeon, paddlefish, Higgins' eye and winged mapleleaf mussels (endangered species), and many other species of fish and mussels.

Volunteers help bring in a large net with lake sturgeon that will be released later.Volunteers may have the opportunity to sample populations of fish by netting, electrofishing, and trapping. There are also many other fulfilling projects to help with including fishing days with children and veterans. Volunteers are invited to a banquet mid winter in appreciation for their efforts.

Some volunteers may be asked to operate boats and must complete the Motorboat Operator Certification Course (MOCC).
