Scott Yess
Assistant Project Leader/Fishery Biologist

Scott coordinates a variety of fishery resource management activities on federal lands in Wisconsin and Minnesota, as well as tribal lands in Minnesota. These include the reintroduction of lake sturgeon to the White Earth Indian Reservation in Minnesota, fish passage projects in the Red River Watershed, a dredged material placement study in Pool 12 of the UMR and zebra mussel surveys in the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway. He is a member of the Region 3 Dive Team, Headwaters-Tall Grass Prairie Ecosystem Team, as well as a representative on the St. Croix Zebra Mussel Task Force. Scott also coordinates activities with the Friends of the Upper Mississippi Fishery Services and volunteer services at the La Crosse Fishery Resources Office.

"Dive Team Member"

Scott Yess in Dive GearAs a member of the Region 3 Dive Team, Scott is involved with several interesting projects. The majority of the dive projects involve native mussels or the invasive zebra mussel. Monitoring the spread of zebra mussels on the St. Croix River provides important information to resource managers who set boating regulations. Another reason it is critical to know the status of zebra mussels on the St. Croix is to protect the endangered winged mapleleaf and Higgins' eye mussels. Propagation of Higgins' eye has been successful at Genoa NFH and divers are used to collect the adults and monitor caged specimens. Collections of winged mapleleaf have been conducted the last couple years in an effort to identify their host fish. Knowing the host fish is vital to developing a propagation program for this species. Divers also have worked on fishery projects, exotic vegetation harvesting, and equipment searches.
