Genoa National Fish Hatchery
The Upper Mississippi River Wildlife and Fish Act of 1931 helped to establish Genoa National Fish Hatchery (NFH) in 1932. The hatchery is located along the upper Mississippi River on 155 acres and raises cold, cool and warm water species of fish and aquatic animals. Nearly 25 species of fish are raised in 67 acres of ponds. The hatchery hatches and rears wild lake trout and coaster brook trout for future broodstock and cultures the endangered species, Higgins' eye pearlymussel, for restoration in the upper Mississippi River Ecosystem. The hatchery also provides opportunities for self-guided and guided tours and is open to the public.
