La Crosse Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office uses outreach events to foster communication between the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the public. This communication is important to provide a mutual understanding between the two entities and to promote public participation in conserving natural resources.

give boat tours of the Island reconstruction
near Brownsville, MN
Island reconstruction is a cooperative effort between the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin Departments of Natural Resources. These islands promote habitat for waterfowl, fish, invertebrates, mussels, and vegetation.

The Friends of the Upper Mississippi Fishery Services (FUMFS), La Crosse FWCO, La Crosse FHC, and Genoa NFH saw the need to get children outside and came up with a Fishing for Fun backpack intended to get children outside with their families.The backpack has an aquatic theme that contains hands-on activities relating to fishing, freshwater mussels, aquatic invertebrates, and just spending time near waterbodies. Visit us at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Resource Center located at 555 Lester Avenue Onalaska, WI. Learn about exotic species such as the round goby, zebra mussels and Asian carp, native paddlefish, lake sturgeon, and freshwater mussel species such as the Higgins' eye and winged mapleleaf. Several other Service offices including La Crosse Fish Health Center, the Upper Mississippi Wildlife and Fish Refuge, Ecological Services, and the National Wetlands Inventory Office reside there as well.
