Friends Group
Illinois River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge Complex feels fortunate to have its friends groups.
Emiquon Audubon Society is very active in the outreach and development of Illinois River Refuges Complex. This organization has coordinated International Migratory Bird Day, National Wildlife Refuge Week and Eagle Day activities, as well as developed informational brochures and upgraded spotting scopes and binoculars for visitor use. In 1998, Emiquon Audubon Society adopted Illinois River Refuge Complex under the Audubon Refuge Keepers Program. Most recently, Emiquon Audubon Society has implemented a refuge stewardship initiative. This initiative has helped to restore wetlands and raise public awareness to refuges.
