Hine's Emerald Dragonfly
The only dragonfly protected by the federal Endangered Species Act is the Hine's emerald dragonfly. Its largest population is in Door Country, Wisconsin. The Hine's also lives in Illinois, Michigan, and Missouri but has been extirpated from Alabama, Indiana, and Ohio.
Recovery of the Hine's in Wisconsin
Recovery actions have centered on protection of the landbase that supports habitat for this dragonfly and protection of water quality in the wetlands where the Hine's is found.

Hine's in the News
In Wisconsin, critical habitat for the Hine's is in Door and Ozaukee counties. A Final Rule that designated Hine's critical habitat was published in the Federal Register on September 5, 2007. A revision to the designation was published in the Federal Register on April 23, 2010.
