Volunteers

Volunteers are valuable members of the Cache River Wetlands partnership; they provide their skills and energy to the reforestation effort, clean-up projects, school programs, maintenance of public facilities, trail construction, office work, and wildlife monitoring. We invite you to learn from first-hand experiences. By volunteering you'll gain knowledge about the Refuge, its purpose and prospects, and become involved with a vision of wildlife, natural landscapes and quality of life for people in southern Illinois.
Contact the Refuge office at (618)-634-2231 for volunteer opportunities.
The following volunteer opportunities are currently available:
AmeriCorps
Southern 7 AmeriCorps and the Cache River Wetlands Joint Venture
The refuge office is also an AmeriCorps site. AmeriCorps is a national Service program that was initiated to work with citizens and local communities through service-oriented projects that focus on education, public health, human services, and the natural environment. Since 2001, Southern 7 AmeriCorps members have been playing an important role in the Cache River Wetlands, an area where concerns for education, public health and safety, human services, and the environment have very visible connections.
AmeriCorps members work with staff from the Cache River State Natural Area and Cypress Creek National Wildlife Refuge. These organizations are part of a conservation effort to protect and restore over 60,000 acres in the Cache River Watershed.
Contact AmeriCorps for position availability. Visit the AmeriCorp web site.
