This unit is located in northwestern Saline County and northeastern Lafayette County just north of Grand Pass, Missouri. The unit consists of two parcels. The larger parcel, 523 acres, consists of open grassland areas and floodplain forests in various stages of maturity. Forty acres of this parcel is farmed under contract. Included in this parcel is the Cranberry Chute a side channel of the Missouri River that forms an island. The island is 68 acres of floodplain forest.

Getting to the Cranberry Bend Unit
To reach the larger east parcel, take highway T north from Grand Pass approximately 2 miles. Just past an abandoned farm house, highway T makes a sharp turn to the left. At this point continue straight ahead onto county road 407. After another mile you will reach a junction. Follow the main road to the left. About 1/3 mile further, take a right onto a farm road. A parking area is provided at the end of this road about 1/2 mile further. The gate on the road over the levee will remain closed. You may walk around the gate and over the levee, the unit will be on your right. This parcel is surrounded by private land so the visitor is advised to look for refuge signs.
Parking lot at larger parcel
The smaller west parcel of this unit is approximately 90 acres. It consists mostly of dense stands of young trees and grasses. To reach this parcel, continue on T past county road 407 and 408. Just past 408 T turns to gravel. Continue on to where it ends at County Line Road. Turn right and continue about 1/2 mile further. Stop and park adjacent to the well and storage shed at that point. The refuge is just over the levee. Do not drive on the levee, block the road over the levee, or block access to the storage shed.
