Native Species Restoration

Native species are an intrinsic part of the ecosystem and are valuable as natural, tribal, recreational, and economic trust species. Concerns for these species include rare or declining natural populations, inadequate information for effective conservation, habitat loss or degredation, and impacts of aquatic nuisance species.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is undertaking strategies to combat these obstacles to native species by acquiring biological information on their population status and trends and habitat availability and quality, controlling aquatic nuisance species, and conserving habitat through protection, restoration, and management.

Alpena FWCO has been involved in investigative and restoration activities in the St. Mary's River, Lake Huron, and the Huron Erie Corridor.
