| Gooneyville Lodge: The Pan Am Hotel nicknamed Gooneyville Lodge was torn down in the 1950s. The hotel, a prefabricated structure with solar-heated hot water, electric lights, screened-in porches, and formal dining room, was used during World War II for men on rest and recuperation and as part of the submarine base housing. "Woody" station wagons were used to transport Pan American guests from the dock to the hotel. |
