Battle of Midway 61st Anniversary
June 4, 2003

In commemoration of the 61st anniversary of the Battle of Midway, Dave Allen, Regional Director for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Pacific Region, and Carolyn Bohan, the Regional Chief for the National Wildlife Refuge System, placed lei on one of the memorials on Sand Island and another on the Eastern Island memorial during ceremonies on June 4th. Stephanie Stuve-Bodeen spoke to residents and visitors about the Battle and the selfless acts of courage by the flyers from Midway. The flower lei were presented as a thousand blossoms for the souls of Midway.
