Headed down the tannin-stained black waters of the Suwannee River in February, biologists begin their seasonal trek to check traps for Suwannee alligator snapping turtles. Biologists Kevin Enge (front) from Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and Shea Husband (left) and field technician Jeremy Geiger (right) from Nature Coast Biological Station will measure, weigh, and mark the animals before they release them. This work documents the growth and continued presence of these prehistoric turtles.
